Maui Catches the Sun. Week Ending: 14.07.17

Hello,

We have had a fantastic time performing our Maui Catches the Sun performance. We have had amazing feedback! We loved it!

This morning our school Governor Mrs Robertson came into Year 2 to do some STEM activities with us. We had to make a raft to see which raft held the most marbles. We also made jelly bean towers using cocktail sticks and we tried to make them as stable as possible.

This afternoon Year 2 had a fun treat outside where we got lots of the PE equipment out and played with our friends.

On Thursday we went to visit our new class. We are looking forward to becoming Year 3 children in September.

This week in English we wrote a setting description for either a town or country as we read Town Mouse and Country Mouse.

Home Learning this week is to practise your lines for the leavers assembly.

Star of the Week is going to EVERYONE in Chestnut Class for their outstanding performance and hard work! Well done team Chestnut Class!

Whole School Picnic. Week Ending: 7.7.17

Hello,

On Monday we took part in the Music Festival and it was lovely to sing along with other schools.

Today we designed Maui Catches the Sun pictures as we will be using some of these for our production programmes.
We also had our whole school picnic outside which was great fun.

As a treat we dipped our toes in the paddling pool and we sat down together whilst eating an ice lolly.

We can't wait to show you our Maui Catches the Sun performance next week. Please make sure costumes come into school on Monday in a named carrier bag as we will be doing a dress rehearsal.

We have been finishing off our David Hockney art work and this will be on display on Opening Evening which is on Monday 10th 5-7 pm. You will also be able to see the large animals that each year group have decorated.

Well done to Kara for her positive attitude.

Don't forget that this evening it is the Junior School disco. Please also send in your reply slip which was in your child's report envelope with a comment. Thank you.

Air Ambulance lands on our field. Week Ending: 30.6.17

Hello,

We have been practising our play 'Maui Catches the Sun' and it is coming together well. Home Learning this week is to start to prepare your costumes and practice the songs.

This weekend Snowy will be going home with Olly. A for his brilliant concentration.

Well done to Charlotte for being a supportive friend and for always being ready for her learning.

During Topic this week we've been getting messy as we've been designing and making clay buildings that represent Redbourn High Street.

In PSHE we had a discussion about what harms the environment and what helps the environment. We can all do our bit by not wasting water or electricity, putting rubbish in the bin and we could walk to school.

On Tuesday the Air Ambulance helicopter landed on our school field it was very exciting!

Mr Hairon visited Chestnut Class on Thursday to read a story to us.

Tomorrow it is the Strawberry Fayre, it starts at 11am and finishes at 2pm. Please come and join us and you will be able to buy your bug wind chime. Maypole dancing will be taking place at 1pm. The year 2 children will meet at the bottom of the ramp at 12:30. See you there!

Sports Day. Week Ending: 23.6.17

Hello,

Today it was Sports Day and Healthy Living Day so our friends and families came to school to cheer, support and encourage us! We've had a fantastic day. Well done to Green Team who were the winners and well done to all the teams for their hard work!

During Art this week we have been studying the artist David Hockney. We found out he uses bright colours so we also used similar bright colours within our own David Hockney inspired art work.

This afternoon we had a cat walk to show off our brilliant recycled fashion wear! Well done to those who 'strutted their stuff' down the cat walk!

In Maths we have been using our directional language to get Fantastic Mr Fox to the chicken run without bumping into the farmers and obstacles.

Today we have said a lovely goodbye to Ciara who is moving on. We wish her all the best and hope she enjoys reading our goodbye messages.

Congratulations to Archie who is Star of the Week for taking responsibility within the classroom.

Well done Ted who Snowy will be going home with for his effort, hard work and team work skills during Sports Day.

Don't forget to have a look for any old library books at home and please return these.

Home Learning is to design your own Sports Day kit.

Have a lovely weekend.

Green Day. Week ending: 16.6.17

Hello,

On Friday it was Green Day so we came into school wearing something green. We did not use the electricity and we used recycled materials and objects to create a piece of recycled clothing. Next Friday we are going to have a fashion show to show off our recycled clothing ideas.

This week during creative writing we designed our own Roald Dahl animal character. Then we used our new character and our imagination to write the next chapter of Famtastic Mr Fox!

Within maths we have been exploring 2D and 3D shaped. We've also been predicting and finding out how many lines of symmetry different shapes have.

Well done to Ted who is the Star of the Week for his creativity and sharing his ideas with others.

Snowy will be spending the weekend with Lexi as Lexi has had a great positive attitude. Well done.

Please continue to practice your lines and routines for our production.

Next Friday is Sports Day, please check your PE kits so that you have all the kit you need. Also don't forget to bring your hat to school as the weather has warmed up and your water bottle.

If you would like to come to the French cafe please sign up. Sign up sheets are on the class doors.

Historians. Week ending: 9.6.17

Hello,

During English and History this week we have become historians as we had to read and record facts in our own words about the history of Redbourn Village. Did you know Redbourn High Street used to be known as the 'Street of Inns' because it had 25 pubs and inns.

This week we said goodbye to Joshua. We hope he has fun at his new school.

In RE we found out about the Jewish leader Moses. We then came up with ideas for our own 10 Commandments.

We had great fun in maths doing a number experiment. We wanted to find out if you add 2 odd numbers together if it will create another odd number. We worked systematically like this:

1+1= 2
1+3= 4
1+5= 6
1+7= 8
1+9= 10

By the end we found out that 2 odd numbers added together equal an even number. We tested this rule with 2 digit numbers as well.
11 + 11=  22
11 + 13= 24
11+ 15= 26

This weekend Snowy will be spending time with Michael for his brilliant positive attitude towards his learning.

Well done to Oliver who received our Star Award for always working hard and persevering with his learning.

Home Learning this weekend is to design your own Roald Dahl character.

Don't forget to fill in your questionnaire and return it to Chestnut Class as soon as possible!!

Have a good weekend! 😊
